According to veteran judoka Shengeli Pitskhelauri, it would have been better if Amiran Papinashvili wrestled in 60kg at Olympic Games.
“In my opinion, coach had to take Papinashvili to London. He is more whimsical judoka and I think, he would have more chance. Besides that, he is in better position in ranking than Shukvani. The head coach thought Shukvani was better prepared” – stated Pitskhelauri.
The veteran sportsman said that other members of the team also did not have whim. He mentioned Adam Okruashvili who lost to Andreas Tolzer of Germany.
“When you receive two yellow cards, you must be more active. Unfortunately, I saw no whim in Georgian sportsmen. Lasha Shavdatuashvili was an exception. He surprised us. I stated before arriving in London that we must expect surprise from him. Seven gold medals are distributed in judo and we gained one. It is a good result if we take into consideration that, founders of this sport – Japanese judokas could not win even one” – added Pitskhelauri.
