Georgian youth freestyle wrestling team needed decisive victory to get in top 3 of World Cup. The tournament was held in city of Germany, Plauen, on May 27-28.
The team of Nugzar Skhireli was in subgroup with American, Azerbaijani and Japanese teams. After beating Americans 6:2, Georgians lost against Azerbaijani team 1:7 and had only theoretical chance of going through final. Beating Japan (8:0) could not save the team – sportsmen of Skhireli took the second place in the subgroup and wrestled against Iran, the second-placed team of other subgroup, for the third place. Iran won over Georgia 7:1.
Azerbaijani and Russia showed draw 4:4 in final. After counting points, Russia was declared as champion.
Soon, young wrestlers will compete in two most important tournaments. On June 21-26, Serbian city Zrenjanin will host European Championship. World Championship will be held in Bucharest on July 26-31.
