World Championship without Georgians

Unfortunately, World Championship which is underway in the city of Turkey, Antakya will continue without Georgian chess players. Maia Lomienishvili (2347) finished competing in the first round, Maia Chiburdanidze (2502), Nana Dzagnidze (2551) and Sophiko Khukhashvili (2430) could not manage to go through the second round.
After finishing classical matches it was known that Maia Chiburdanidze would leave competition. Maia lost with Xue Zhao (2474) of China and after losing in the first round, drew in the second one and finally lost 0.5:1.5.
Dzagnidze and Khukhushvili drew classical rounds with Almira Skripchenko (2507) of Frnace and current champion Russian Aleksandre Kosteniuk (2507). Tiebreaks were very difficultand finally they lost. There are 8 couples after the second round of championship. Chinese players have bigger chances than another player to become champion. It is noteworthy that most of them went though the third round and it is expected that they will go though the semi quarter also.
The prize-money of Word Championship is 450 000 USD and the winner will be awarded with 60 000 USD.
