Tbilisi Sports Palace will host Judo World Cup tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. About 200 sportsmen of more than 20 countries will wrestle on tatami. 28 Georgian wrestlers will fight to improve rating and to gain license points of Olympic Games. Head coach of the team will let medal winners of Georgian Championship 2010 wrestle on tatami. Judokas who will show good results at this tournament will participate in international tournaments.
Winners of the first weight classes will be found out on the first day of the tournament. Davit Asumbani, Betkil Shukvani, Paata Merebashvili and Tristan Peikrishvili will wrestle in the name of Georgia in 60 kg. 66 kg – Shalva Kardava, Giorgi Shoshiashvili, Arsen Macharashvili and Levan Chubinidze. 73 kg – Tengiz Paposhvili, Zurab Nozadze, Zviad Bazandarashvili and Ambako Avaliani.
Two from these judokas were left without medals at Georgian Championship. Merebashvili and Macharashvili were not to participate in World Cup but they are in the list instead of Vaja Margvelashvili (60 kg) and Sandro Iakobashvili (66 kg).
“Margvelashvili is member of youth team. Iakobashvili feels bad and he will have a chance to show himself at any other international tournament” – head coach Soso Liparteliani stated to “World Sport”.
Only Levan Zhorzholiani (100 kg) will not compete from medal winners of Georgian Championship. He has a waist pain and the coach substituted him with Malkhaz Nijaradze. Here is the full list of 81, 90, 100 and +100 kg:
81 kg – Giorgi Baindurashvili, Paata Gviniashvili, Avtandil Chrikishvili, Davit Karbelashvili; 90 kg – Lasha Guruli, Saba Gavashelishvili, Archil Shinjikashvili, Giorgi Tsotsiashvili; 100 kg – Malkhaz Nijaradze, Davit Loriashvili, Konstantine Mukvani, Revaz Chikoidze; +100 kg – Zviad Khanjaliashvili, Adam Okruashvili, Nodar Metreveli, Vakhtang Zoidze.
Marius Vizer, president of International Judo Federation, will attend Tbilisi World Cup. He is already in Tbilisi and held several business meetings.
One the most important event – tomorrow stars of modern Georgian judo, Olympic champion Zviad Zviadauri and silver medal winner Nestor Khergiani will be seen off from active sport.
Matches will start at 10:00 and decisive matches – at 17:00. Georgian Public Broadcasting will broadcast them. Ticket prize is 3 GEL.
