Today, an event dedicated to 80th anniversary of Vakhtang Salukvadze, veteran sportsmen and honored coach, was held at Nino Salukvadze academy. Heads of Georgian sport and current and veteran sportsmen attended the academy and rewarded Vakhtang Salukvadze for his merit in development of Georgian shooting sport.
“Happy 80th anniversary and we wish you long life. Your health and activities in this sport are very important for Georgian sport. I believe that you will still be able to bring up starts” – stated Lado Vardzelashvili, minister of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Gia Natsvlishvili, president of National Olympic Committee, mentioned that Salukvadze still plays a key role in bringing up next generation.
Honored Ukrainian guests attended the ceremony. Olympic champion Ian Jelezniak was among them. He mentioned in the conversation with journalists that Vakhtang had been teacher of Ukrainian shooters for a long time.
Vakhtang Salukvadze won Soviet Union Championships many times. He achieved success while working as a coach. Under his coaching, Nino Salukvadze managed to become Olympic champion. After 20 years, she won Olympic bronze medal.
