Unsuccessful Start at Baku Cup

 

 International tennis tournament of WTA has started in the capital o Azerbaijan, Baku (Prize money 220 000 $). A lot of Georgian tennis players participated in this tournament but only twoof them managed to go through the main wrap – Anna Tatishvili top seed ofGeorgia (No.93 seed) and Sopho Shapatava (No.245 seed). Both of them were given it due to higher rating.

Three Georgian tennis player played in qualifying stage but all of them failed unfortunately: Tatia Mikadze (No.277 seed) appoached final of qualifying stage where she lost with Russian Valeria Soloviova (No.274 seed) 6:1, 3:6, 1:6. Eka Gorgodze (No.471 seed) lost with Greek Eirin Georgatu (No.213 seed) (3:6, 1:6) and coud not manage to go through the main wrap. Sopho Kvatsabaia (No.449 seed) could not manage to beat Russian Yana Buchina (No.373) 4:6, 7:5, 3:6 in the second circle.

One more Georgian tennis player Shapatava could not manage to beat Kazakh Galina Voskoboeva (No.162 seed) and lost the first match of the main wrap – 0:6, 0:6.

Double tournament also was unsuccessful for Georgians.  Gorgodze and Russian Maria Zharkova showed rsistance against Tai and Autralian duet (Lertcheevakarn and Dominikoich) but in spite of this they lost -6:7, 6:4, 10. Kvatsabaia and Russia Marina Shamaiko lost with 17-year-old UzbekAbdurimova and 15-year-old Azerbaijani Parfad 3:6, 4:6.

On Tuesday Georgian top seed Anna Tatishvili plays against Russian Evgenya Rodina (No.7 seed). Russian Vera Zvonariova (No.3 seed of the world) is a leader of “Baku Cup”.  As far as you know director of Baku tournament is Leila Meskhi president of Georgian Tennis Federation.
