U-19 Teams: Calendar, Opponents, History...

 

VI round matches of elite round of European U-19 Championship will take place in Croatia on May 25-30: Croatia, Bosnia, Austria and Georgia are in this group. One team goes through the final stage which will be held in Estonia on July 3-15.

Calendar of elite round was known long time ago. Now, location and time are also known:

According to the website of UEFA, all matches will start at 18:30 Tbilisi time.

Three from four teams (except Austria) took the first place in the qualifying round. Let us have a look how the teams played in the qualifying round.

Croatia (head coach – Dinko Jelicic)

Qualifying round (in Holland); against Finland 4:2, against Moldova 4:0, against Holland 0:0. I place.

Top scorer: Mario Jelavic (3 goals)

In U-19 team: 92 matches, 50 victories, 18 darws, 24 losses.

Recent years: 2007 – lost elite round, 2008 – lost elite round, 2009 – lost qualifying round, 2010 – went through the final stage and lost semifinal, 2011 – lost elite round.

Bosnia (head coach – Toni Karacic)

Qualifying round (in Bulgaria): against Russia 2:0, against Ireland 2:0, against Bulgaria 2:1.

Top scorer: Safet Sivsic (2 goals).

In U-19 team: 52 matches, 10 victories, 8 draws, 34 losses.

Recent years: 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 – lost qualifying round, 2010 – lost elite round.

Austria (head coach – Rubert Marko)

Qualifying round (home): against Malta 3:0, against Albania 0:0, against Denmark 0:0.

Top scorer: Daniel Kren (2 goals)

In U-19 team: 131 matches, 44 victories, 26 draws, 61 losses.

Recent years: 2007, 2010 – went through the final stage and stayed in group, 2008, 2011 – lost qualifying round, 2009 – lost elite round.

Georgia (head coach – Otar Korghalidze)

Qualifying round (in Turkey): against Poland 3:1, against Turkey 1:1, against Luxembourg 2:0.

Top scorer: Giorgi Chanturia, Vako Kazaishvili, Davit Skhirtladze, Lashaa Parunashvili (1-1 goal).

In U-19 team: 67 matches, 20 victories, 17 draws, 30 losses.

Recent years: 2007 – lost elite round, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 – lost qualifying round.

Giorgi Devdariani coached Georgians in the qualifying round.

 

Georgian U-19 team went through elite round for the first time since 2007. Georgians played at the final stage only once – in 1999, coached by Vakhtang Kopaleishvili. Though, it was U-18 Championship but was identical to U-19.

The only difference is that in 1999 the final stage was 16-team. It has become 8-team since 2002.
