Two Medals from Tehran

 

Tehran hosted Free-style Grand Prix, while Belgrade was hosting Greco-Roman Style European championship. Due to European championship, Georgia is not represented with optimal staff at this tournament.

Georgian, Iranian, Russian, Mongolian, Kazakh and Iraqi national teams participated in this competition. Traditionally host team represented overcrowded team (51men). Georgian team is represented with 12 sportsmen and 2 of them managed to win medals. Elizbar Odikadze (96kg) beat two Iranian – Japar Dalry and Elias Bakkhtiar and Russian Islam Gajiev lost chance of being champion with host Abas Tahan. Giorgi Edisherashvili and Lasha Lomtatidze wrestled in 55 kg weight category, they lost with Russian Nariman Israpilov. Finally, in Georgian match Edisherashvili beat Lomtatidze, as a result Edisherishvili took the third place and Lomtatidze the fifth place.

Iakob Makarashvili (74kg) wrestled for bronze medal, but he lost and took the fifth place. Giorgi Sakandelidze (heavy-weight) finished the tournament in quarter –final, he took the 7th place among 14 participants.

Malkhaz Kurdiabni, Davit Berdzenishvili (both of them 60 kg), Giorgi Lobjanidze, Koba Kakaladze (both of them 66kg), Goga Khochua (74kg), Tornike Svanidze and Beka Chelidze (both of them 84 kg) finished competition at the beginning of the tournament.

As for Georgian team, it took the fourth place, as for top three it is the following: Iran, Russia and Kazakhstan.
