Two Bronzes with Two Staffs

 

Georgian Greco-Roman wrestling team won two medals at Yadegar Imam Cup which was held in the city of Iran, Qom. Because of upcoming European Championship, Georgian team participated in international tournament without leaders of weight classes. Marad Abuladze (66kg) and Mikheil Kajaia (96kg) won bronze medals. Abuladze lost the first round to future champion Ali Mohamad of Iran and won three fights in repechage. Kajaia went through semifinal of the main draw and then wrestled in “bronze final”.

Shmagi Guliashvili (74kg) needed one victory for standing on pedestal. Goderdzi Davitadze (55kg) and Giorgi Tsirekidze (84kg) took the seventh place. Piruz Tsulukidze (60kg), Mamuka Khozrevanidze (66kg), Arsen Kakhabrishvili (84kg), Amiran Zarnadze and Mate Sopadze (both 96kg) lost the first round.

Six teams competed in “Yadegar Imam Cup”: Georgia, Iran, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Kazakhstan. The host team took the first place.

It was expected because Iranians wrestled with 73 sportsmen. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan took the second-third place. Georgian team took the fourth place.
