Two 5th Places and Team 10th Place

Bronze medal of Amiran Papinashvili (60 kg) was the only medal which Georgian judo team gained at Paris Grand Slam. Yesterday, champions and prize winners were found out in 4 weight classes. 5 Georgian judokas wrestled on tatami. Two of them, Varlam Liparteliani (90 kg) and Adam Okruashvili (+100 kg) needed one victory till top 3. Both of them lost in ¼ final.

Liparteliani lost against Brazilian Tiago Camilo by waza-ari. Before that, he beat Dutch Robby Van Laarhoven by yuko. In the 1/8 final, Liparteliani won over Polish Krzysztof Veglarz.

Okruashvili lost against Cuban Oscar Bryson. Before this match, Okruashvili beat two opponents: Bulgarian Ivan Iliev and Estonian Martin Padar by ippon within 3 minutes. Liparteliani and Okruashvili took the 5th places and gained 60-60 rating points.

On Sunday, winners of 81 and 100 kg were found out. Members of Georgian national team finished participation in the tournament from the first stage. Levan Tsiklauri and Lasha Zurabiani wrestled in 81 kg. Tsiklauri started participation from the 3rd circle. He beat Finnish Antti Virta and went through 1/8 final but he could not do anything against Argentine Emanuel Lucenti. South American judoka made one yuko, waza-ari and ippon within 3 minutes and half. Zurabiani held only one match. He lost against Uzbek Mumin Nabiev.

Levan Zhorzholiani (100 kg) won over French Mael Le Normand within 3 minutes. In 1/8 final, he was beat by Japanese Riunosuke Haga at the 14th second.

According to the team results, Japan became champion among 74 countries. Daiki Nishiyama (90 kg) brought the third gold medal to his country. Heavyweight Daiki Kamikawa was beat by French Teddy Riner. Only Riner became champion from the host men team. South Korean Jae-Bum Kim became champion in 81 kg and Dutch Henk Grol – in 100 kg. According to the team results, Georgian judo team took the 10th place.

One pleasant news. Zurab Zviadauri showed up at Paris Grand Slam as a head coach. It is obvious that one of the most talented representatives of Georgian judo has a great potential in a new role. Perhaps, he will achieve success as a head coach.
