Five Grandmasters advanced after three rounds of Gibraltar Chess Festival (150 000 EUR). They are: Nigel Short (Englad, 3677), Michael Adams (2724), Yifan Hou (China, 2605), Sabino Brunello (Italy, 2581) and Ruben Felgaer (Brazil, 2571). Georgian Nana Dzagnidze (2535) is half point behind them.
In the third round, Dzagnidze beat Alister Kompton of Zealand (2051) with white pieces. Alexandr Fier of Brazil (2603) will be her next opponent.
Nino Khurtsidze (2444), Lela Javakhishvili (2454) and Salome Melia (2398) have 2-2 points. They are in the 54th, 62nd and 69th places. Shalva Kakulia (2133), spouse of Nana Dzagnidze, is in the 130th place with 1.5 points.
Ten rounds will be held at the Gibraltar tournament and it will end up on February 2. Prize money will be shared the following way: I place – 20 000 EUR, II – 12 000, III – 10 000, IV – 8 000, V – 5 000, VI – 3 500, VII – 3 000, VIII – 2 500, IX – 2 000, X – 1 000, XI – 1000, XII – 1000. Woman winner will gain 10 000 EUR, the second-third placed – 7 000 and 5 000.
