Champions and prize winners of European Sambo championship 2012 will be found out at Olympic complex” Luzhniki”, located in the capital of Russia, Moscow since May 20. European Sambo championship first was held exactly in Moscow, 20 years ago in 1992. Since that time the capital of Russia, again hosted the tournament in 2005.
According to the preliminary information there are about 450 participants of 33 countries at this tournament. Among them are 12 Georgian Sambo wrestlers. Georgia represents 9-man team and 3 Georgian women also will take part in this competition.
Today, champions and prize winners will be found out in 52, 68 and 90 weight categories among men and in 48, 60 and 72 weight categories among women. Genadi Chirgadze (52 kg), Levan Nakhutsrishvili (68 kg), Davit Karbelashvili (90kg) and Nino Odzelashvili (72 kg) will represent Georgia at this following tournament today. On May 19 Ushangi Kuzanashvili (57kg), Beka Berulaba (74 kg) and Mirian Pavliashvili (100kg), Shorena Sharadze (64 kg) and Irine Leonidze (80 kg) are to compete. On the final day of the tournament- Davit Asumbani (62 kg), Giorgi Baindurashvili (82kg) and Noxar Metreveli (+100kg) are to wrestle.
Before holding European championship, there was held the annual congress of European Sambo Federation in Moscow. The main topic of the congress was presidential election. Delegates again support to Sergey Elieev. He has been the president of European Sambo Federation since 2004 and according to the decision of the meeting, his authority expends until 2016.
