Georgian national judo team took the first place at Oberwart World Cup. Betkil Shukvani (60 kg) and Levan Tsiklauri (81 kg) gained gold medals. Adam Okruashvili (+100 kg) won silver medal and Zviad Khanjaliashvili (+100 kg) won bronze medal.
There were a lot of participants at Austrian tournament like Tbilisi World Cup, which was held 2 weeks ago. This time 68 sportsmen wrestled at Oberwart World Cup. Traditionally judo starts did not take part in this tournament.
Tsiklauri wrestled at Oberwart World Cup as effectively as at Tbilisi World Cup. In final match he won over Canadian Antuan Valua-Fortie in 74 seconds, before this fight he beat Sacha Denanion of Togo, Turkish Ahmet Sary, Pole Lucaz Blachz and Latvian Konstantin Ovchinikov, French Luis Pietry.
Adam Okruashvili held the first match against British Metew Clampner.After British rival he managed to win over Marco Radulovic of Montenegro, French Metwe Batie, South Korean Sung-Min Kim and Japanese Kazuhiko Takahashi. In final match he wrestled against Oscar Brison, unfortunately he lost and earned 60 points.
Khanjaliashvili lost with Brison in quarter-final match, before this match Khanjaliashvili beat two opponents. Khanjaliashvili lost with Carlos Erik Zegara Preser, Mongolian Munkhbaatar Khadbaatar. In repechage match Khanjaliashvili won over Estonian Martin Hadar in 19 seconds with awarding ippon and in repechage final he won over Kazuhiko Takahashi in 2 minutes and half and as a result he gained 40 points.
Nodar Metreveli amnestied from forever disqualification returned to international tatami in Austria. Metreveli wrestling in 100 kg weight category we in the main staff of Georgian national judo team at Oberwart World Cup. But he did not participate in this tournament, according to the information spread in internet, he could not wrestle due to over-weighting. As a result Georgian national judo team did not have participant in 100 kg weight category.
These following three members from Georgian national judo team: Avtandil Chrikashvili (81 kg), Zurab Zviadauri and Betkil Shukvani (both of them 90 kg) stopped wrestling in the first stage of the tournament.
The most unexpected was Chrikashvili’s failure at this tournament. Champion of Tbilisi World Cup managed to overcome only one stage at Oberwart World Cup. He beat Belarusian Alexand Styashenka and lost with Hungarian Laslo Szokniay.
As for Zviadauri, he lost with Swiss Siryl Grosclaus and as a result lost chance of being in top three. Before this match he managed to win over Austrian Cristopher Radler.
According to preliminary information, Zviadauri again will wrestle at international tournaments for earning necessary points for license at London Olympics, but only theoretical chance exists. After a long pause, Zviadauri still cannot wrestle well.
