Three Guaranteed Top Three

 

Georgian judo team will end up Rio de Janeiro “Grand Prix” with six medals. Varlam Liparteliani (90kg), Irakli Tsirekidze (100kg) and Adam Okruashvili (+100kg) will add medals to gold of Betkil Shukvani (60kg) and bronzes of Amiran Papinashvili (60kg) and Lasha Shavdatuashvili (66kg). All three are in semifinal and they have guaranteed third place at least.

They started participation from ¼ final and defeated Brazilian opponents. Liparteliani beat Enrique Silva by ippon. Tsirekidze won Bruno Altoe over and Okruashvili – Gabriel Santos.

Today, Avtandil Chrikishvili (81kg) and Levan Zhorzholiani (100kg) also wrestled on tatami. They started participation from ¼ final but lost and took the fifth place. Chrikishvili lost to Victor Penalber, Zhorzholiani – to Hugo Pesana.

In semifinal, Liparteliani will wrestle against Thomas Briceno of Chile, Tsirekidze – against Christian Schmidt of Argentina, Okruashvili – against David Moura of Brazil. Final matches will take place late tonight.
