Tbilisi is Favorite of European Chess Union

Today, Lado Vardzelashvili Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia met Silvio Danailov, President of European Chess Union. The aim of his 2-day visit in Georgia is to learn about the preparation process of European Women’s Chess Championship. Besides that business negotiations are also on an agenda.  According to an agenda meeting is planned with Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava too. European Women’s Chess Championship is held in May and one of the host candidates is Tbilisi. “Several countries showed wish of hosting European Women’s Chess Championship, deadline of candidates’ registration is on February 18 and the best candidate will be chosen soon.  Our big wish is this tournament to be held in Tbilisi. Georgia is chess country and it is also experienced of holding such tournaments. Besides that there has just been 50th anniversary of Maia Chiburdanidze and soon will be 60th anniversary of Nona Gaphrindashvili. Those players are legends and it will be symbolic if Tbilisi hosts this tournament this year”- stated Silvio Danailov.

Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia mentioned that Tbilisi can host such tournament. For Georgian chess players playing in their home town will be additional stimulus of success.
