In 2012, Women’s Rapid Chess Super Tournament will be held at Tbilisi Sheraton Hotel on February 18-21. Gia Giorgadze, president of Georgian Chess Federation, made a statement at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. According to him, 12 best women chess players will participate in the tournament. Two chess players will be from the host country (Maia Chiburdanidze and Nana Dzagnidze). Prize money of the tournament is 40000 USD.

Gia Galdava, secretary of minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, made the following statement: “Holding such tournament in Georgia is the most important event and acknowledgement of Georgian chess”.

Organizers of the tournament: ACP (Association of Chess Professionals) and Georgian Chess Federation, general sponsor – “Socar Energy Georgia”. Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and Tbilisi City Hall are supporters.

It is worth mentioning that European Women’s Individual Championship which was held on high level this May in Georgia was approved by chess universe. That is why super tournament will be held in Tbilisi.
