Tennis tournament (2 168 400 USD) has started in the city of Canada, Montreal. Georgian top seed tennis player Anna Tatishvili is No.11 seed in the qualifying draw and celebrated the first victory.
Tatishvili who is in the 84th place on WTA ranking won the first match over world No.208 Sharon Fichman of Canada 7:5, 6:1. In the second round Anna will play against Ashley Weinhold of America who defeated Tamarine Tanasugarn of Thailand 6:3, 6:4. Thanks to the first victory, Tatishvili earned 12 ranking points and in case of beating Weinhold she will gain 20 points. The third victory will bring her 30 points.
Tatishvili needs to win three matches to go through the main draw. In case of overcoming the American obstacle, the Georgian tennis player will play against winner between No.1 seed Urszula Radwanska of Poland and Melanie Oudin of America.
Last year Toronto hosted “Rogers Cup”. In the first round Tatishvili won over Kai-Chen Chang of Taiwan 6:3, 6:3 but then lost to Maria Jose Martines Sanchez of Spain 4:6, 2:6.
Natia Gegia made through ¼ final of Ankara tournament (Turkey, 10 000 USD) where she lost to Kanae Hisami of Japan 1:6, 6:4, 2:6.
