Georgian judo federation held summarizing press-conference at Judo Academy named after Shota Chochishvili, after successful competition at Kiev World Cup. The tournament was held in Ukraine, on March 31-April1. Georgian wrestlers gained 2 gold, 3 silvers and 9 bronze medals at this tournament. As for the team, it took the second place.
Georgian national judo team attended to this tournament with whole staff. Giorgi Aleksidze president of federation, Validemr Nutsubidze general secretary of federation and Vano Janukashvili deputy of head of sport department of Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs congratulated sportsmen this success.
“Georgian judo has very good future generation, 28 medals gained at two international tournaments this year also proves it. As far as you know, 2 weeks before Kiev World Cup youth team brought 14 medals from Antalya. Most pleasant is Mariam Janashvili’s success- in Antalya she won bronze medal and in Kiev became champion. We have not had such success in girls, so Mariami’s success encourages us. I believe that at 2016 Olympic Games we will have female representative too. Now we have to focus on European championship, which is to be held on June 22-24. I hope that our team will also succeed in Montenegro”-stated Giorgi Aleksidze.
Gia Tenadze also congratulated such success Georgian team and added that the main tournament of the season is ahead and it would be better if they summarize everything after competing well European championship.
“It is too difficult to predict anything in this age category. During the tournaments a lot of thing change. Sometimes, sportsmen who are considered as favorite cannot wrestle well or vice verse it is quite possible someone to have unexpected results. According to the results of these tournaments, we have already made some outlines. There are leaders in some weight categories, but I do not want to say anything in advance, because others will lose motivation. Now, competing at Montenegro tournament is not guaranteed for anyone”- stated head coach of youth team.
Before European championship Tenadze will hold four preparation meetings. Since tomorrow youth team will have 12-day preparation in Gori. Then preparation is planned in Bakuriani, where physical training is focused on. On May 5-6 candidates of Georgian team will wrestle at another international tournament – Berlin Europe Cup. In two days after finishing preparation in Bakuriani, Georgian team will leave for Berlin. Head coach of the team warned journalists in advance that after physical preparation wrestling well is very difficult and that’s why he waits for less success in Berlin. As for European championship, head coach of the team has optimistic mood about it and says the following:” we have stable, strong team and our goal is to fight for championships in each weight category”-stated Gia Tenadze.
