Successful 3rd round of Georgian Chess Players

 

The 3rd round of Gibraltar chess tournament turned out successful for Georgian chess players – Nana Dzagnidze (2550), Salome Melia (2449) and Giorgi Kacheishvili (2585) celebrated victories.

Dzagnidze who is preparing for the decisive stage of FIDE Women’s Grand Prix, beat Spanish Juan Manuel Lopez (2404) with black pieces and collected 2.5 points. She is in the 15th place among 232 participants.

German Daniel Fridman (2655) is the next opponent of Nana. He also has 2.5 points. Georgian chess player will play with black pieces again.

Melia and Kacheishvili have 2-2 points. They are in the 44th and 78th places. In the 3rd round, both Georgian chess players gained success with black pieces. Salome won over Greek Khristos Ziguris (2215). Giorgi beat Mexican Julian Estrada Nieto (2309).

In the 4th round, Melia and Kacheishvili will play with white pieces. Melia will play against American Oleksandr Onishchuk (2689) and Kacheishvili will play against Canadian David Cummings (2366).

After 3 rounds, the following chess players are leading Gibraltar Masters: Lithuanian Viktor Chmilite (2526), Indian Deep Sengupta (2530), English Nigel Short and Russian Nadezhda Kosintseva.

10 rounds will be held at the tournament and it will finish on February 3. Prize money is 126 000 GBP. Champion will win 17 500 GBP. Top 12 chess players will be rewarded.
