Georgian judo team ended up the first day of Buenos Aires “World Cup” with hundred per cent result. On June 16, Betkil Shukvani (60kg) and Lasha Shavdatuashvili (66kg) wrestled on Argentine tatami and became champions.
Shukvani started participation from ¼ final and defeated Gabriel Sabatino of Argentina and two Brazilians: Diego Santos and Breno Alves by ippon-ippon.
Shavdatuashvili started participation from 1/16 final by beating Martin Laureano. He won Ivan Duarte of Uruguay by ippon, Nathan Burns of Great Britian by two yukos, Fernando Gonzales of Argentina and Luiz Revite of Brazil.
Shukvani and Shavdatuashvili were seeded as No.1 at “World Cup”, like other members of Georgian team: Avtandil Chrikishvili (81kg), Levan Zhorzholiani (100kg) and Adam Okruashvili (+100kg). These three judokas will wrestle on June 17.
Chrikishvili will wrestle against Rodrigo Idro of Chile in 1/8 final. Zhorzholiani will wrestle against winner between Victor Conserv of Brazil and Lautaro Avakian of Argentina in ¼ final. Okruashvili needs two victories for victory. Georgian heavyweighter will wrestle against winner between Orlando Bacino of Argentina and Luis Salazar of Colombia in semifinal.
