Season Full with Age Medals

2010 was unsuccessful for Georgian judo and wrestling teams. None of them managed to win gold medal at European and World Championships. It caused dissatisfaction not only fans but also the management of these sport federations and head coach of judo was changed in the middle of the season. Head coaches of Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestlings were given time to improve the situation.
Age teams had better result than the main teams - 9 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze medals at European and World Championships.
Traditionally, European Championships were held among cadets and Greco-Roman wrestlers had the best results. Head coach Vaja Kraveishvili took 9 sportsmen in Sarajevo on August 7-8. 6 from them stood on the pedestal. Georgian team took the 2nd place. Piruz Tsulukidze beat all his opponents and became European champion twice in a row. Last year he won in 58 kg and this time he became champion of 63 kg. Iakob Kajaia (100 kg) needed one victory to win gold medal and finally, he won silver medal. Ednar Shavadze (42 kg), Amiran Shavadze (54 kg), Lasha Gobadze (76 kg) and Robert Kobliashvili (85 kg) won bronze medals.
Freestyle wrestlers collected 5 medals but none from the team of Tamaz Bendianishvili won gold medal. Lasha Bitarashvili (54 kg) was close to the goal but he lost in the final. Davit Buziashvili (58 kg), Irakli Mosidze (63 kg), Lasha Gigashvili (69 kg) and Levan Gogrichiani (85 kg) took the 3rd place.
Teplice, the city of Czech Republic, hosted European Cadet Judo Championship on June 25-27. Lasha Taveluri (81 kg) won silver medal and Mikheil Mezurnishvili (60 kg) won bronze medal from the team of Ramaz Chochishvili. After the end of European Championship, Giorgi Vazagashvili substituted Chochishvili.
Young judokas wrestled better than cadets. Two sportsmen made gold double. Freestyle wrestler Davit Khutsishvili (74 kg) and judoka Avtandil Chrikishvili (81 kg) became European and World champions. Soso Liparteliani coached youth team at European Championship and Giorgi Gugava - at World Championship. At the end of the season, these young sportsmen wrestled with elders and participated in Georgian Championship. Chrikishvili could not become champion but Khutsishvili competed successfully and after beating Gela Sagirashvili in the final, he guaranteed wrestling at European Championship 2011.
Freestyle wrestler Vladimir Khinchegashvili (55 kg) needed one victory for gold double. He won silver medal at European Championship and won all matches at World Championship. Nugzar Skhireli is heading freestyle youth wrestlers' team.
Judoka Otar Kaidarashvili (55 kg), freestyle wrestler Giorgi Sakandelidze (120 kg) and Greco-Roman Vasil Imerlishvili (96 kg) stood on the highest step of the pedestal. All of them won European Championship. Giorgi Nozadze (judo), Tengiz Chochishvili (freestyle), Tornike Makharadze and Sachino Davitaia (both Greco-Roman) won silver medals. Lasha Talakhadze (freestyle) won bronze medal. Talakhadze finished World Championship with silver medal. Zebeda Rekhviashvili (judo), Tengiz Chochishvili, Giorgi Sakandelidze (freestyle) and Arsen Kakhabrishvili (Greco-Roman) took the 3rd place.
Classic style youth wrestling team became European champion.
