Sanikidze Is Close to Mchedlishvili

 

After 6 rounds three chess players are leading chess tournament in the capital of Azerbaijan. Baris Esen of Turkey (2588), Anton Korobov of Ukraine (2474) and Sergei Zhigalko of Belarus (2667) are leading with 4.5-4.5 points.

Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2652) and Tornike Sanikidze (2586) have the best results from Georgians at the Baku tournament. They have 4-4 points and are in the 15th and 17th place. In the previous round Mchedlishvili played draw with Vasif Durarbayli of Azerbaijan (2584). Sanikidze defeated compatriot Sophiko Khukhashvili (2396) with white pieces.

After this failure, Khukhashvili is in the 34th place with 3.0 points. Here are the results of the Georgians: 22. Salome Khazhomia (2143) – 3.5; 23. Nino Batsiashvili (2410) – 3.5; 28. Gaioz Nigalidze (2449) – 3.5; 37. Levan Pantsulaia (2575) – 3.0; 50. Ana Gavasheli (2360) – 2.5.
10 countries started competition at Baku international tournament. Prize money of the tournament is 50 000 USD. Russian Anton Korobov (2705) who has the best ranking among the participants is in the 6th place with 2.5 points.
