Georgian Sambo Federation summarized World Sambo Championship at Ministry Sport and Youth Affairs. Georgian youth and juniors teams won 8-8 medals and became team champions at World Championship which was held at Tbilisi Sports Palace on October 8-10. Girls won 4 medals and for the first time in sambo history, Georgian woman sambo player became champion.
Representatives of Sambo Federation held press conference. Gia Galdava, head of Sport Department, applied to journalists and sportsmen who were in the hall. After official comments, veteran sambo players congratulated sportsmen.
"World Championship should have been public festival but unfortunately, our expectation was not justified. One of the main reasons of it is that media did not broadcast the championship. We did our best for it. We asked for time to summarize World Championshp on Public Broadcasting but we were told, that they had planned their TV programme a month ago. Unfortunately, these words make some doubts. Anyway, we do our job and I want to thank boys who wrestled perfectly. Also I want to thank coaches - Badri Janiashvili and Emil Rash and those who played even a little role in our success. We have won youth and juniors championship for the first time since 1993. Today I was told that president would award young champions and prize winners with money. Unfortunately, juniors will not be awarded but I promise them that federation will find some money for them" - stated Oleg Iadze, vice-president of Sambo Federation and head coach of the national team.
Minister of Sport Lado Vardzelashvili congratulated sambo players success. Gia Galdava, head of Sport Department, made statement:
"I want to thank everyone who played a great role in making Georgian fans happy. I want to thank sportsmen, coaches and representatives of the federation. Sambo Federation is the only federation which does not announce results of European and World Championships by rote. Sambo players win so many medals that it is difficult to announce them by rote. It is result of hard working. World Sambo Championship will be held in November in Tashkent. I want to wish Georgian team great luck and I am sure they will not disgrace themselves".
Only World Championship is left till the end of the season. Tashkent will host the championship will be held on November 4-8. Team of Oleg Iadze will start team meetings in these days.
