Georgian National Cadet Judo Team gained one bronze medal at Cadet European Judo Championship, which was underway in the city of Malta, Cottonera. Champions and prize winners were found out in 66 and 73 kg weight categories. 4 Georgian sportsmen wrestled and one of them – Levan Gugava (73 kg) won bronze medal.
In semi-final he lost chance of winning silver or gold medal, he lost with future champion Russian Suleiman Vishegurov. Before this semi-final match he won over three rivals: Polish Meijko Polgrabsk, Estonian Martin Vits and Azrebaijani Firudin Dadashov. In repechage he managed to beat Ukrainian Vitaly Derevianko.
In the same weight category semi-final was held between Georgian and Russian sportsmen. Beka Doghvani after failure with Rustam Gerekov could not manage to win in repechage and finally took the 5th place at European Championship. In the main wrap Doghvani beat Dutch Boid Dreskty, Croatian Stiepo Rock and Ukrainian Derevianko. In 66 weight category Giorgi Muzashvili wrestled better than another Georgians did. He lost in quarter final with future champion Russian Mikhail Igolnikov and then lost with Azerbaijani Husein Rahamlin. In the same weight category Apolon Zurabiani lost the first match with Azerbaijani Mikhail Aaniev and stayed beyond the tournament.
Today all the four members of Georgian girl’s team wrestled at European championship and as it was expected neither of them managed to go through the second stage. Guranda Shotadze (52 kg) could not manage to win Hungarian Szabina Gersak, Marian Tsikhelashvili (52 kg) lost with Romanian Aleksandra Florian, Mariam Janashvili (57 kg) – Serbian Natasha Shimonkovich and Ani Mindiashvili (63 kg) – Polish Ursula Hofman.
Tomorrow champions and prize winner will be found out in 81, 90 and +90 weight categories. Beka Ghviniashvili, Adam Varzishvili (both of them 81 kg), Shalva Chocheli, Guram Tushishvili (90 kg), Giorgi Lazuashvili and Giga Gelashvili (+90 kg) will represent Georgia.
