The issue of Richie Dixon, head coach of Georgian national rugby union team, whether he stays in the national team or not is not decided yet. Also, it is not known who will replace defence coach John Maglton.
Today, at the press conference hall of “Shevardeni” stadium, coach assistant Ilia Maisuradze, media manager Lasha Khurtsidze and rugby players – Lasha Khmaladze, Sandro Todua, Bidzina Samkharadze and Jaba Bregvadze met the journalists.
“First of all, I want to inform you about the position of Georgian Rugby Union – we think that Georgian team played well at World Cup. Everybody mentioned that we have the most developing team. We have to continue working this way and at World Cup 2015, we will arrive in England with more ambitious team. As for the issue of Richie Dixon, he will stay in the team for sure. We do not know if he will be head coach or assistant. The final decision will be made after the return of Gia Nijaradze, president of Rugby Union, to Georgia. On October 25, he will attend the congress of International Rugby Board in New Zealand. We will discuss a new coaching staff and will make choice on the best variant”, - stated Lasha Khurtsidze.
Ilia Maisuradze mentioned progress of the national team and estimated competition of “The Lelos” well. Though, he also remembered some mistakes which the team made.
“We planned to win over Scotland. The team played well on defence but they made some mistakes. We held the third match against Romania. It was the match where we had to prove that Georgia is in the 7th team in Europe. The boys did everything perfectly and gained historical victory. We did not have enough strength against Argentina and lost”, - mentioned Maisuradze.
