Renovated National Team

10-year-old Georgian wrestling season finished. The last stage of this tournament was competing of Greco-Roman style wrestlers. Champions and prize-winners were found out in three 84, 96 and 120 weight categories. 55 sportsmen were competing in these we4ight categories. 4 hours for finding out champions and prize-winners were enough.
Vladimer Gegeshidze (Tbilisi) became a champion in 84 weight category. He won over Nikoloz and Giorgi Avazashvili (Tbilisi), Lasha Khamaladze a member of Adchara team and Mate Sophadze (Bagdati). He won decisive match over Davit Chakvetadze (Kutaisi). Chakvetadze is 18-year-old and his wrestling was distinguished. But he could not become champion. Gegesshidze wrestled during championship as well as in final match. Revaz Nadareishvili and Mate Sopadze won bronze-medals. Sopadze managed to be in top three the second time. Manuchar Kvirkvelia European, World and Olympic champion participated in weighting but in a short time he said that was feeling bad and that’s why could not wrestle in 84 weight category. Akaki Jokhadze and Arsen Kakhabrishvili silver and bronze winners could not take part in the tournament due to injuries.

Unexpectedly, Nozadze did not participate in tournament. Another favorite Soso Jabadze also did not take part in the competition due to injuries. 18-year-old Sandro Dikhaminjia became a champion. His private coach was Otar Tatishvili a former coach of Nozadze. Dikhaminjia beat Solomon Gikashvili in final match. Before Giorgi Kiknadze he won over  Gocha Davitadze (Adchara) and Vladimer Karchava (Ozurgeti) champion at Youth European Championship. Karchava and Beka Chopliani took the third place.

There were 12 participants in heavy weight, Guram Perseladze became champion with winning three matches. After winning over Shota Gogisvanidze (Kutaisi), he had to wrestle against Givi Morchiladze (Tbilisi), but his rival did not participate due to injury. He beat Revaz Cgelidze (Ozurgeti) in decisive match. Gogisvanidze and Dimiti Javakhishvili took the third place. Javakhishvili could not keep champion’s title and he lost with Chelidze. Tbilisi team took the first place among teams, Adchara took the second place and Kutasi the third place.

After finishing championship “World Sport” took an interview from Begi Darchia the main coach of Greco-Roman National Team.
- How could you estimate championship?
- Wrestling level was higher in compare with last championship, which was held in January. The most pleasant is that there were appeared several sportsmen who will fight for being in the main staff of national team.
-  Whose wrestling is distinguished?
- Archil Turmanidze (66 kg), Zurab Macharashvili  (55 kg), silver-medal winner Davit Chakvetadze (84 kg) and Sandro Dikhaminjia (96 kg).  There were several interesting prospective sportsmen.
- Are you satisfied with wrestling of experienced sportsmen?
- Their competing was quite well. Lasha Gvenetadze (55 kg), Ramaz Lashkhi (60 kg), Manuchar Tskhadaia (74 kg) and Vladimer Gegeshidze (84 kg) wrestled in a very persuasive way. It was pitiful that Giorgi Tsirekidze (74 kg) stayed beyond the top three. He is very hard-working person and very gifted but… he lost weight and could not show his maximum possibilities.
- Where is Tskhadaia’s place, in 66 or in 74 weight category?
- It is fact that he competed in higher weight category quite well. But I do not know exact answer about it now. Everything will be shown at International tournaments.
- Is it already decided which International tournaments Georgian National Team will take part in?
- There is already schedule and there are 3 tournaments in this schedule. Candidates of National Team will compete in Turkey and in France at the end of January and in Bulgaria in February. Team members for European champion will be found out after Bulgaria.
- Georgian championship was held without titled sportsmen. Do you discus them as members of national team for European championship?
- We will give chance to them also till March, but I cannot say anything exactly. Coaching council will make final decision.
