Upon the dramatic victory of the Belgium basketball national team over the Polish side, it was clear that Georgian team concluded its 2011 European Qualifying Stage in second spot of Group C. This result can be considered as success.
As it was expected Georgian national team could not qualify because of a worse ball difference compared to the other two groups second placed teams. This was a major reason of why Georgians were denied in qualifying for the European basketball forum directly from the group. Now, Georgia will enter the mini-tournament which will be consisted of six teams: worse second placed team of the tournament, all the third placed teams, and the two best fourth placed teams.
It is yet to be published on FIBA’s official website which teams are going to compete in this mini-tournament with our team however if we look back to the past year’s regalement these two teams will Poland along with Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the last year format, Italy, Ukraine, and Bulgaria will fill the other three team group.
The games of the mini-tournament will be played by a home-away system while the winner of the first group will face the winner of the second group. After the two match duel between the two, the best team will conclude the top 16 team list that will compete in the European basketball championship that will be held in Lithuania next year.
The teams that will battle for the place in Division A will be Latvia, Finland, Hungary, and Portugal.
