At the end of May and at the beginning of June Tbilisi hosts World Trophy and Georgian National Rugby U-2o Team is to take part in this competition. Georgia has never hosted such grand tournament before. Paata Narimanashvili head coach of Georgian National U-20 Team is sure that spectators will be surprised with playing of his sportsmen.
8 teams participate at World Trophy. There are two groups and the winner of the group goes through the final. Each team will hold four matches. The goal of Georgian team is to win right of competing in Elite Round where are12 best teams. Teams of Japan, Canada and Zimbabwe are rivals of “The Lelos” in sub0-group stage. Samoa, Russia, the U.S. and Uruguay are in the second group.
Last year Georgian team won U-19 European Championship convincingly and as a result won right of competing at World Trophy. Now, Narimanashvili trains ream for the next tournament and held friendly matches too. In April will be final stage of preparation when “Clermonte” U-21 team arrives in Tbilisi and will hold two friendly matches against Georgian U-20 Team. “World Sport” talked about future plans and preparation with Paata Narimanashvili.
Paata Narimanishvili: “We have preparation without legionaries and we also hold friendly matches. We play against Georgian National U-18 Team, “Kochebi” and “Academy”. At the end of April at the final stage of preparation “Clermonte” U-21 team is to visit Tbilisi and on April 25, 29 we are to hold friendly matches. Since May 10 30-man team will be gathered and will be chosen 26 players who will compete at World Trophy”
- What is paid more attention now?
- Since that time physical preparation has been paid more attention. Now tactic preparation is paid more attention.
- How much satisfied you are with team?
- What is the main Georgian Rugby Union mad perfect preparation conditions for us and day by day we are progressing. Last year sometimes we have gym’s problem, but now we train at training base “Shevardeni” and have no any obstacles.
- What about future rivals? There teams of Canada, Zimbabwe and Japan in your group.
- There is no weak rival at World Trophy. As we won European Championship they won their regional championship and they are honored rivals. We know opportunities of the U.S., Canada, Japan, Uruguay, Russia but Samoa is the most unusual team. We will do our best for achieving our goal. We believe that we will win all the matches of this tournament, we do not have another choice for going through the Elite Round.
- After winning European Championship you stated that your sportsmen surprised you. Shall we get surprised again?
- They will surprise as they did at European Championship. Our goal is one to be among the best 12 teams in the world, for that we have to win this tournament and we will do our best for it.
