Georgian U-16 basketball team won the third match at the European Championship Division B and reached success in overtime for the second time.
Team of Gia Kazanjyan beat Belgium 65:64 on Friday and Slovenia 70:69 in overtime on Saturday.
First quarter finished 16:16 as in the match with Belgium. Slovenians started the game well and they were winning 8:1 but after the activity of Beka Burjanadze and Nika Ramishvili the game was equalized.
Both teams scored points one after another during the second quarter. Georgians were winning 2 points for great break 26:24. Slovenian played fast in the 3rd 10-minute and had a great advantage 38:30 at the end of quarter. Team of Kazarjyan scored 11:2 points in last 3 minutes. Mikeladze, Ramishvili and Leri Kvantaliani played well and before the last quarter Georgia had advantage 41:40.
Beka Burjanadze was the best baketball player of the match with 21points and 17 rebounds.
One minute before the end of the main time, Slovenia was winning after the shot of Matik Machek 53:50. Beka Nadiradze scored 2 points and Mikeladze scored 3 points and Georgians became leaders 55:53 a minute and half before the referee blew the whistle.
Soon Luka Kokol scored 3 points. In the responsive attack Burjanadze lost the ball. Ramishvili committed foul after challenging with Aleksei Nikolich. 15 seconds before the final whistle Nikolich scored first penalty but missed the second shot. Georgians needed 2 points to equalize the game.
9 seconds before the end of the main time, Kokol committed foul after challenging with Mikeladze. Georgian player scored both shots and the score became 57:57. In the last time Slovenians missed final shot and extra time was appointed to find out the winner.
Geogians played well in overtime. First Levan Lolishvili scored 3 points, then Ramishvili shot exactly from long distance. After 2 points scored by Beka Burjanadze the score became 69:62. A minute and half was left before the end of the match but Kastelich and Kopach managed to reduce the score 66:69. Fortunately, 9 seconds before the final whistle, Mikeladze scored one penalty and the team was 4-point ahead. In the last time Slovenians scored only 3 points.
Thanks to this success, Georgian U-16 team is leader of Group C. It would be miracle if Georgia did not go through the next round. To happen this, Slovenia must beat Romania in the last round, our team must lost with Luxembourg with big score. Considering that Slovenia beat them (93:52), it is impossible.
Georgia will beat Luxembourg and they will go through the next stage by defeating Slovenia.
Best 8 teams will play in two groups. Leader teams will play in semifinals and finalists will have a right to play in Division A next year.
