One German Gold Among Georgian Gold Medals

On the second day of World Cup Men Tbilisi the tribunes at Tbilisi Sports Palace were more crowded that on the first day of the tournament. One of the reasons of this was Zuab Zviadauri’s return in active sport. Fans were waiting his appear on tatami till the afternoon. According to ballot, Zviadauri had to start competition from the second circle against Romanian Mihai Leonard Simon, but Romanian sportsman did not come for weighting and that’s why Georgian start started competition from the 1/8final.
The fans stood when Zviadauri appeared on the arena. He also quickly reminded everyone his career peak period- when he beat 2005 European champion David Alarza in a minute. Quarter-final showed that he is too far from his desirable condition. He lost with Serbian Dmitry Gerasimenko and went through repechage. Zviadauri needed two victories for bronze medal and he did well. In a minute and 54 seconds he beat Ukrainian Kuejao Nhabal and in a minute and 43 seconds Moldovan Ivan Romanenko. After this match Zurab Zviadauri hardly managed to leave the tatami, he was suffering from pain. As it was found out later, his old trauma of shoulder complicated and due to making analyzes he was taken to hospital. That’s why award ceremony in 90 kg weight category was held without him.

If Zviadauri did not loose with Gerasimenko, he would fight against two times finalist of Europe Varlam Liparteliani in semi-final. Everyone was waiting for this match with big interest.
Finally, Lipartreliani became champion in this weight category. Lasha Guruli and Giorgi Nozadze also represented Georgia in this weight category, but unfortunately their competition was not successful.  Guruli stayed beyond the tournament from the second circle and as for Nozadze, he wrestled only once.
In 81 kg weight category only Davit Karbelashvili could not manage to go through quarter-final from Georgian foursome. Levan Tsiklauri became bronze medal winner, but he could take higher positions if coaches did not make mistake, which was corrected later.
Gviniashvili’s participation at World Cup was decided several days before the tournament it was head coach Giorgi Vzagashvili’s demand. Besides him everyone no one expected the sportsman born in 1995 would have such result at this competition, but he showed his possibilities and went through semi-final.
Another Georgian who went through semi-final in this weight category was Avtandil Chrikashvili. Georgian final lasted for 21seconds, the match finished in favor of Chrikashvili.
There was Georgian final in heavy weight category too. Adam Okruashvili won over Zviad Khanjaliani, as he did at Georgian championship two months ago.
Levan Gujejiani who has not competed for a long time due to injuries had an interesting return at this tournament. He beat No.1 seed wrestler in his first fight, but he also injured and that’s why he refused to wrestle in repechage final. As for Levan Matiashvili, who proved at Georgian championship that in spite of his age he is ready to show strong resistance against elder and strong wrestlers many times deserved applauses at World Cup. He managed to win one match from three, in repechage final he lost with experienced Spanish judoka Anzel Para.
In 100 kg weight category Soso Mskhaladze had chance of becoming champion, but he lost final fight with German Dmitry Peters.
In some days international judo federation will publish new ranking, where will be considered results of Tbilisi World Cup too.
