Omar Gurjidze Is World Champion

 

Omar Gurjidze (69kg), member of Georgian cadet freestyle wrestling team, became world champion. In final of Baku World Championship the Georgian sportsman defeated Sergey Dramaretsk of Ukraine 1:0, 8:1. Before that Omar Gurjidze won over Jack Bass of America 1:0, 1:0, Reza Rostamal Mozafarijuvbar of Iran 3:1, 4:1 and Sabri Sabriev of Bulgaria – 1:0, 5:0.

Today, Giorgi Lezhava (50kg) and Avtandil Kenchadze (58kg), members of Georgian team, took the 5th place.

Giorgi Lezhava lost to Ali Farviz Mohamadzadenagarch of Iran (0:1, 1:1) in semifinal. In “bronze final” he lost to Andrey Vatsenko of Ukraine (0:4, 1:0, 0:3). Before that he defeated Dostonbek Bozorov of Uzbekistan (3:3, 5:4, 4:0) and Khishigbat Khuvagtbaatar of Mongolia (1:0, 9:1).

Avtandil Kenchadze lost to Taimuraz Guriev of Russia (0:4, 0:6). When Guriev made through final, Kenchadze wrestled in repechage where he beat Jan Kombrink of South Africa (0:1, 2:0, 7:0). But he could do nothing against Samir Satar Vavar of Iran.

Shmagi Todua (42kg) and Tornike Basilashvili (85kg) lost the first round of World Championship. Todua lost to Tsogbakrakh Tseveensuren of Mongolia and Basilashvili – to Vadim Shershan of Belarus.

Tomorrow, champions and prize winners will be found out in five weight classes. The following sportsmen will wrestle in the name of Georgia: Irakli Mkheidze (46kg), Levan Murtskhvaladze (54kg), Tarzan Maisuradze (63kg), Giorgi Chkhartishvili (76kg) and Beka Kakhetelidze (100kg).
