New Era Starts in Kutaisi Basketball

It is true that Kutaisi gave basketball world European champion (Otar Korkia), world champion (Nikoloz Deriugini) and Olympic champions (Zura Sakandelidze, Mikheil Korkia), maybe it is surprising but the city which grew up such grands has never won any tournament. “Kutaisi-2010” broke this unpleasant tradition and won Dudu Dadiani Memorial (10th anniversary). In final match “Kutaisi-2010” beat MIA - 93:75.
As far as you know “Kutaisi-2010” is the fifth club after “Energy-Invest” (five times winner of Dudu Dadiani memorial), GTU-“Geocell” (2), “Dinamo” (1) and “Tbilaviamsheni” (1). The final match was equal. At the end of the match “Kutaisi-2010” got advantages and advanced with 3 points – 21:18. After the first quarter fans expected tense fight but their prognosis did not become true. “Kutaisi-2010” managed to beat MIA convincingly.

There was such period, when “Kutaisi-2010” advanced with 12 points. In spite of such point difference, MIA did not give up and was going to fighting. They shortened point difference – 55:58. Goga Tsekvava scored three-point kick and did not let MIA to equalize.  Matiashvili, Didia and Babunashvili also player well and played an important role in success of “Kutaisi-In compare with opponent, defensive line of MIA had problems and it was the main reason of their failure.
Goga Tsekvava scored 28 points for “Kutaisi-2010” and he was named as the best player of the tournament and awarded with special prize.
So, new era starts for “Kutaisi-2010” after winning Dudu Dadiani Memorial.
