“Star Tournament” among women chess players is underway at “Sheraton Metechi Palace” hotel. Three rounds were held today. Two Georgians are competing in this tournament – Nana Dzagnidze and Maia Chiburdanidze. The third day of the tournament turned out successful for Nana Dzagnidze. She won all three games. In the sixth round, Nana beat Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria with white pieces. In the seventh round, she defeated Viktorija Cmilyte of Lithuania with black pieces. In the 8th round, Nana Dzagnidze played against Maia Chiburdanidze. It was quite tense game but Nana won with white pieces and is in the 3rd place.
As for Maia Chiburdanidze, she competed unsuccessfully. In the 6th round, Maia played draw against Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia with white pieces. In the 7th round, Chiburdanidze lost for the first time in this tournament – she lost to Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria with black pieces. In the 8th round, Maia lost to Nana Dzagnidze.
Last 3 rounds will be held on Tuesday and winner of “Star Tournament” will be found out.
