Metreveli Closes Russian Europe

 

Georgian national sambo team ended up the last day of European sambo championship, which was underway in Moscow with Nodar Metreveli’s gold medal. In the final of championship Metreveli beat Russian Alexadnt Vakhaviak. As for the preliminary round matches, neither tournament organizers not official web-site of European sambo federation have published them.

 Today Davit Amsumbani (62kg) and Giorgi Baindurashvili (82kg) also wrestled and represented Georgia, but they stayed beyond the top three.

 As far as you know, European championship started in Moscow on May 18. On the first day of the tournament, Genadi Chirgadze (52kg) and Levan Nakhutsrishvili (68kg) members of Georgian national team won silver medals. On May 19 five Georgians competed and all of them gained medals. Ushangi Kuzanashvili (57kg) became European champion. Besarion Berulava (74kg) and Irine Leonidze (80kg) were very close to gold medal but finally took the second place. Mirian Pavliashvili (100kg) and Shorena Sharadze (64kg) gained bronze medals.

 As for the team situation, Georgian national team took the fourth place after Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. As far as you know Georgia had whole line-up only in men team. There were 3 sportsmen in women team and fighting sambo - none.
