One of the most important events of basketball season 2010-2011 is that Kutaisi is returning to great basketball. City which brought up European, World and Olympic champions (Nikoloz Deriugin, Zurab Sakandelidze, Mikheil Korkia).
"Kutaisi" is holding a meeting now and continues preparation for a new season at Olympic house in Dusheti district.
"World Sport" contacted head coach of "Kutaisi" Malkhaz Kokhreidze.
- First tell us about your preparation in Dusheti district.
- We are at Olympic house in Dusheti. We have all conditions to prepare well. We pay attention to physical preparation as well as training with ball.
- When will you finish meeting in Dusheti?
- We will return to Kutaisi on October 2.
- Who is heading "Kutaisi" along with you?
- Konstantine Cheishvili is president and Tengiz Bibichadze is director.
- Please, tell us briefly about yourself.
- I am former basketball player. I was born in 1968 in Kutaisi. I played for reserve staff of "Dinamo" Tbilisi which competed in the championship of former Soviet Union. I lived and worked in the city of Greece, Thessaloniki, for several years. I returned to Georgia 10 years ago and I am still serving Georgian basketball.
- What kind of staff do you have?
- We have invited 5 players from different clubs: Buba Berishvili ("Sokhumi"), Rezo Didia (SAU), Buba Kvimsadze ("Sokhumi"), Gigia Barbakadze (SAU) and Mamuka Bolkvadze ("Batumi"). Other members of the team are players born in 1992-94. They became champions of several age championships 3 times in a row.
- What is goal of "Kutaisi" at the 20th national championship?
- Club owners demand from them to win at least bronze medal.
- Will you be able to satisfy demands of the club owners?
- I will try to return lost basketball traditions to Kutaisi.
