The best Georgian chess player Baadur Jobava (2710) who is in the 31st place of FIDE ranking, beat the world's strongest player, Norgewian Magnus Carlsen (2826) and helped Georgian team to defeat Norwegians in the 4th round of Olympiad.
Jobava played with white pieces and won on the 64th move which was the most important sensation of the 4th day at Chess Olympiad which takes place in the city of Russia, Khanty Mansiysk.
Levan Pantsulaia and Tamaz Gelashvili won their matches against Norwegians. Mikheil Mchedlishvili played draw with black pieces and Georgians beat their opponents 3.5:0.5.
Thanks to this success, Georgian men's team collected 8 points and is a leader among those 6 teams which have maximum results after 4 rounds. According to the additional data, Georgians are only behind Russian 2nd team. Then comes Vietnam, Russian 1st team, Hungary, Holland and Armenia.
In the 5th round, Georgian team will play against one of the rivals Vietnam which is No.27 seed. Asians beat Botswana 4:0, then beat Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan - 2.5:1.5 and Estonia - 3.5:0.5. Vietnamese leader Liem Le Quang (2694), Truong Son Nguyen Ngoc (2633), Dung Nguyen Anh (2500), Hai Dao Thien (2520) and Hoa Nguyen Duke (2385) are playing for Vietnam.
Current champion Georgian women's team was beat at Olympiad. They were playing against favorite Russian 1st team.
Bela Khotenashvili lost against Alisa Galliamova with black pieces. Nana Dzagnidze, Lela Javakhishvili and Salome Melia played draw with Tatiana Kosintseva, Nadezhda Kosintseva and Alexandra Kosteniuk and finally, we were beat 1.5:2.5.
After the 4th round Georgian women's team still has 6 points and is in 10th place. Ukraine, China, Bulgaria and Russian 1st team are leading Olympiad with 8 points. Hungary, the USA, Romania and Slovenia are one point behind them.
Georgian women will play against Azerbaijan in the next round. Azerbaijan won 3 from 4 matches. Our neighbor beat Tajikistan (3.5:0.5), Austria (3:1) and Slovakia (3.5:0.5) but they lost against Ukraine in the 3rd round - 1:3.
Zeinab Mamedjarova (2234), Turkan Mamedjarova (2301), Gulnar Marfat Mammadova (2293), Nargiz Umudova (2251) and Khayala Ilgar Isgandarova (2172) are playing for Azerbaijan.
