World Youth Chess Championship has ended up in the city of Slovenia, Maribor. Georgian delegation gained only one medal. Nino Khomeriki (2049) earned 9.0 points in 11 rounds at U-14 girls’ tournament. She won silver medal.
Khomeriki won 8 games, played 2 draws and lost to Monnisha of India (2027) who took the third place. Mahalakshmi of India (2001) won gold medal. Like Khomeriki, the Indian earned 9.0 points and had better additional data than Nino.
Other three Georgians got in Top 10 – Luka Oboladze (1678, U-10, the 10th place), Giorgi Sibashvili (2200, U-14, the 6th) and Nato Imnadze (2070, U-16, the 6th). Bad play of Meri Arabidze (2391) was disappointing. She was No.1 seed at U-18 girls’ tournament but she earned only 6.5 points and was 3.0 points behind Russian champion Alexandra Goriachkina (2378).
