Georgian judo team ended up Budapest World Cup with two bronze medals. Seven judokas of Peter Seisenbacher participated in the tournament. On the first day of a 2-day tournament – on February 12, Betkil Shukvani (60 kg) took the third place. On February 13 – Davit Karbelashvili (81 kg) stood on the pedestal. Heavyweight Nodar Metreveli had a real chance to get in top 3 but he lost the decisive match.
Karbelashvili started participation in World Cup with beating Polish Lukasz Blach. Then he beat Turkish Ahmet Sari by waza-ari, Slovenian Aljaz Sedej and German Robert Gess by ippons. In the semifinal, Karbelashvili wrestled against Montenegrin Srdjan Mrvaljevic who beat him by yuko. In repechage final, Karbelashvili won over American Travis Stevens and gained bronze medal.
+100 kg had less participants than 81 kg and three victories were enough for Nodar Metreveli to go through the semifinal. Metreveli won over Hungarian Adam Juhasz, French Pierre Robin, Algerian Mohamed Bouaichaoui and went through the semifinal where he lost against Brazilian Rafael Silva. If Metreveli had won the following match, he would have gained bronze medal and 40 rating points. But Dutch Luuk Verbij achieved success and Metreveli took the 5th place. Judokas who beat Karbelashvili and Metreveli became champions in 81 and +100 kg.
On the second day of the tournament, champions and prize winners were found out in 90 and 100 kg. Georgian team had two participants in 90 kg and had none in 100 kg.
Lasha Guruli and Saba Gavashelishvili lost before ¼ final. So, they lost chance to win bronze medal along with gold-silver. Guruli beat Estonian Grigori Minaskin at the 3rd minute by ippon. But he lost against Hungarian Tamas Madarasz. Gavashelishvili started participation from the second circle and beat Hungarian Istvan Levente Nagy. But he lost against Ukrainian Quedjau Nhabali in 1/8 final.
