On the first day of European three-day championship, Georgian national youth judo team ended with two failed finals. Today, in the city of Croatia, Porec champions and prize winners were found out in three weight categories. Six wrestlers represented Georgia, two of them became prize-winner. One of them was very close to pedestal, but lost the decisive match.
Leri Chelidze (55kg) started competition from the 1/8 final, for going through the final was necessary to win three matches. He beat Hungarian Akos Barta with yoko, he beat with ippon Armenian Garik Harutinyan, European champion 2011 (he lost final fight with him last year and this year managed to take revenge). Like Barta he beat French Vinsent Manke with awarding ippon and went through the final. Belgian Adrien Kertinmont became champion in this weight category and as for Leri Chelidze, he became silver prize-winner the second time in a row.
Vaja Margvelashvili (60kg) beat Jew Yuval Kalifa with awarding yoko and then beat French Cavin Azema, Spanish Francisco Garigos and Italian Karim Maria Di Loreto with awarding ippon. He lost decisive fight with Zaur Kalashov of Russia.
Beka Vibliani (66kg) took the fifth place at European championship. He lost with Dutch Xordi Bake and stayed beyond the main draw. Before quarter-final he beat Estonian Oscar Pertelson and Latvian Mikhalis Steinbuks. In repechage after beating Serbian Ilya Ciganovic wrestled against another member of Dutch team, Junior Degin, but could not manage to beat him.
Today Mindia Golijashvili (55kg), Lekhum Chkhvimiani (60kg) and Beka Tugushi (66kg), but all of them lost in 1/8 final and as a result they lost chance of winning medals.
Golijashvili was to beat Italian Luca Cavalo with two yoko, but due to penalties he could not finish the match. As for Chkhvimiani, he could not overcome Austrian obstacle – Andreas Tifgraber. As for Tugushi, he could not beat Italian Mateo Piras.
Tomorrow champions and prize winner will be found out in 73 and 81 kg weight categories. Fridon Gigani, Levan Gugava (both of them 73 kg), Beka Gviniashvili and Beka Dogvani (both of them 81kg) will represent Georgia. Gugava and Dogvani are European and world prize-winners (2011). Gviniashvili became champion at these both tournaments and gained bronze medal at World Youth championship (2011).
