Baadur Jobava (2706), member of Georgian chess team, played draw with Hua Ni of China (2637) on the 30th move in the fifth round of chess tournament which is underway in the city of United Arab Emirates, Dubai.
Ni has 4.5 points and is leading Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup with Vladimer Akopian of Armenia (2684). 18 chess players are 0.5 points behind the leaders. Jobava, Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2626) and Levan Pantsulaia (2595) are among them. They are in the 3rd, 5th and 6th places.
In the previous round Mchedlishvili and Pantsulaia played against each other and played draw on the 30th move. After beating Koohestan of Iran (2364), Davit Arutinian (2553) earned 3.5 points and is in the 25th place. As for Sophiko Khukhashvili, she lost to Makropoulo (2224) with black pieces and is in the 37th place with 3.5 points.
Today is a day off and participants will play blitz. On April 21, the 6th and 7th rounds will be held. In the 6th round Ni will play against Akopian. Jobava will play against Kuzubov of Ukraine (2615) with black pieces. Pantsulaia will play against Negi of India (2639) with white pieces. Traditionally Dubai hosts this tournament for the 14th times. 172 chess players from 32 countries are participating in it. 91 are international masters. 14th DUBAI OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP is based on Swiss system and it finishes on April 23. Prize money of the tournament is 50 000 USD, champion wins 10 000 USD.
