Jobava and Mchedlishvili in Top Three

 

Baadur Jobava (2706) top chess player of Georgia won blitz tournament of Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum Cup in Dubai, in classic chess, he gained 7.0 points in 9 rounds and as a result he is behind only champion Hua Ni (China, 2637).
Jobava did well in the last round of international chess tournament, which is underway in the UAE. He beat Ukrainian Vladimir Baklan (2612)- with white pieces and Indian Surya Gangul (2633) with black pieces. He was very close to the first place, but Chinese Hua Ni became champion with his additional point. It must be mentioned that Baadur won five matches at 14th DUBAI OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP (three matches in a row) and played four draws.
Mikheil Mchedlishvili (2626) also gathered 7.0 points and according to his additional points he took the third place, so two Georgians won medals. In the eighth round Mchedlishvili played draw with Armenian Zaven Andriasyan (2616) with black pieces and in the ninth round he beat No.2 rank Dutch Luk Van Wely (2691) (Jobava was No.1 rank at this tournament). It is worth mentioning that Mikheil took the second place in blitz tournament, so Dubai tournament can be called successful for them.
Ni champion of the tournament gained 10 000 USD from 50 000, which was prize money of this following competition. Jobava gained 7 000 USD and Mchedlishvili- 4 000 USD. Other Georgian participants of the tournament – Levan Pantsulaia (2595) and Sofiko Khukhashvili (2408) gained 5.5.-5.5 points and took the 33rd and the 42nd places. In the last round unexpected Kazakh Marya Sergeeva (2327) beat Davit Arutinyan (2553), as a result Asian gained 6.0 points and was ahead Khukhashvili with 0.5 points among women. She was awarded with 3 300 USD, as for Arutinyan he took the 56th place with 5.0 points.
