Historical Semifinal: Georgia Continues Fighting for Championship!

Georgian U-17 football team coached by Vasil Maisuradze made history. Georgians defeated Iceland (1:0) in the last round of the group stage at European Championship. They are through semifinal and made sensation of the tournament. In short, four teams are fighting for gold medals of European Championship. Besides Holland, Germany and Poland, Georgia is among these four teams. Everybody will agree with me that it sounds great…

It was the 73rd minute when Dato Dartsimelia used assist of Giga Samkharadze and scored goal against goalkeeper Runar Runarsson. Georgian team did not have advantage but players of Vasil Maisuradze really deserved to score goal in this match. Icelanders made only long distance assists. It caused only two dangerous moments. Georgians attacked better. Giorgi Papunashvili was the best in our team. He often attacked the goalkeeper of Iceland and deserved to score one goal at least. Victory is the main. Germany won France over (3:0) in the second match of Group A. Here is the situation in our group: Germany – 9 points, Georgia – 4, France – 2, Iceland – 1.

Georgian U-17 team is in semifinal and will play against first-placed of Group B Holland. Perhaps, we can consider Holland as a favorite, but nothing must be impossible for the team which overcame Spain, England and Ukraine in elite-round and played bravely against Germany-France.

Semifinal matches will be held on May 13. This date is important for Georgian football. The second finalist will be found out on that day too. Final of European Championship will take place on May 16.
