Heavy Price for Victory

Georgian U-20 rugby team scored 4 tries against Canadians and added one premium point to 4 ones.

Before the start of World Trophy, “The Lelos” trained on artificial turf fields and it had influence on their playing. Players of Paata Narimanashvili had to spend all their energy for gaining success.

“Many players got injury in this match. Unfortunately, Goderdzi Chincharauli injured shoulder and will not be able to participate in the tournament anymore. Other players also got injuries but they are not serious and I hope they will be ready for the next match. We were preparing on artificial turf fields and it had influence on boys. Our goal was to achieve success at the expense of minimum energy but we could not do it but getting premium point was important. It was the first match and the boys were nervous. They scored four tries in the second half. Now, we have faith and it will help us in future. We made some mistakes but I hope we will play better and will have better result”, - stated head coach of Georgian U-20 team Paata Narimanashvili.

The match of Georgia and Canada turned out the most tense from the first day’s matches. It seemed that the boys were too nervous. Canadians did not seem to give up. At the 4th minute, our opponent made offence and Bakhva Kobakhidze scored penalty.

After four minutes, Canadians made offence again and this time Kobakhidze scored penalty from 26 metets – 6:0. Georgians had advantage in scrum. Soon Goderdzi Chincharauli injured his shoulder and was to be substituted. At the end of the first half, Georgians scored another penalty and increased advantage up to 9 points.

Georgians had physical advantage but they could not use it while attacking. At the 29th minute, Georgian team made offence and Liam Underwood scored penalty. At the end of the half, Canadians made offence. Georgians preferred scrum but they could not score try. Soon after, Canadians made another offence and Kobakhidze scored penalty from 42 meters – 12:3.

At the beginning of the second half, Canadians attacked Georgians. “The Lelos” made offence and Underwood scored penalty from 38 meters. This made Georgians angry, attacked the opponent and scored try but referee did not count it. Georgians did not confuse and attacked Canadians again. Levan Chilachava scored the first try and Kobakhidze used conversion.

Soon Canadians had a chance to score try but they made offence. At the 55th minute, Underwood scored penalty – 9:19. Giga Tkhilaishvili who was one of the best players of the match scored the most beautiful try. Kobakhidze used conversion.

At the 60th minute, Georgian team was in a bad situation – Ucha Mchedlishvili got injury and was to be substituted. As we did not have other player on this position, Kobakhidze played instead of Mchedlishvili. Georgians scored the third try at the 73rd minute. Kobakhidze scored conversion. One more try was necessary for premium point. Georgian team attacked the opponent and Zurab Jvania ascored the 4th try. This time, Kobakhidze could not use conversion and the score was 38:9.

“It was a difficult match. We beat the opponent in attack and the boys spent so much energy. We played better in the second half. Besides of 22 rugby players, we had 4 substitutes in the list. Substitute of Chincharauli was among them and we will prepare for the next match with him”, - stated captain of Georgian team Davit Losaberidze.

“We did not expect loss with such big difference. You had advantage in attack and that is why we lost the match. We will hold match against Japan in 4 days. I hope we will carry out our plan”, - stated head coach of Canadian team Michael Cook.

“We did not attack the opponent well. We made some mistakes and that is why we were punished” – added captain of Canadian team Tyler Ardon.
