Georgians are Leading Aleksandria Cup

 

 

Chess Festival named after twice world vice-champion and 9-time winner of World Chess Olympiad Nana Aleksandria is underway in Poti.

“Nana Aleksandria Cup-2011” (30 000 GEL) has been held since 2006 and the Poti local government is organizer of the tournament. Competition is held in age groups and open tournament.

Of course, a lot of Georgians compete in the tournament. Though, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Russian, Iranian and Singaporean chess players are in Poti.

After three rounds, seven participants are leading open tournament. Five of them are Georgians: Levan Pantsulaia (2612), Davit Zarkua (2433), Iveri Chigladze (2401), Irakli Beradze (2281) and Bachana Morchiashvili (2376).

In the fourth round, games of Morchiashvili-Pantsulaia, Beradze-Chigladze and Shahinyan (Armenia)-Zarkua will be central.
