Georgian Youth Judo Championship Ended up

Champions and prize winners were found out in 8 weight classes of Georgian Youth Judo Championship 2011. Today, champions were found out in last 4 weight classes.

Zurab Epitashvili of Kvemo Kartli became champion in 81 kg. He beat Teimuraz Khachidze (Tbilisi) in final. The Kakheti final was held in 90 kg – Giorgi Kavtaradze won over Ilia Otiashvili. He was born in 1994 and one interesting detail, when Otiashvili was weighed he was 85 kg.

Judokas from Imereti region wrestled in final of 100 kg. Elguja Bibilashvili beat Giorgi Tsnobiladze.

Heavyweight Ushangi Kokauri (Shida Kartli) beat Slavik Rezesidze (Kvemo Kartli), won gold medal and his team became champion. Representatives of Shida Kartli won 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals. Representatives of Kvemo Kartli won 2 gold, 4 bronze and 1 silver medals. Kakheti took the 3rd place with 2 gold and one silver-bronze medal. Imereti took the 4th place (1 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze). Failure of judokas from Tbilisi was surprising. They only won 1 silver and 4 bronze medals.

Gia Gugava, head coach of Georgian youth team, made statement for “World Sport”:

“Everything happened as I expected. Main candidates of the team proved their advantages once again. Only Giorgi Katsia (60 kg) could not manage to wrestle well – he was left without medal. Vaja Margvelashvili showed the best result in this weight class.

We watched expected final in 55 kg. I am satisfied with wrestling of champion Giorgi Mesablishvili and silver medal winner Leri Chelidze. In July, I will take both of them to the Czech international tournament. I can say the same about Lasha Shavdatuashvili, champion of 66 kg, and second-placed Otar Archuadze. Perhaps, they will be in the list of European Championship.

Unfortunately, we have a bad situation in 73 kg. I will take Pridon Gigani, champion of Georgia, and Mikheil Chokheli to the Czech tournament. If they cannot get in top 3, perhaps this weight class will not have judokas.

I will observe three candidates in 81 kg: Epitashvili, Ratiani and Shalva Ninidze who was left behind top 3 of Georgian Championship. Giorgi Mermanishvili will wrestle in 90 kg. He is obvious leader of the domestic competition. Bibilashvili and Tsnobiladze will wrestle in 100 kg. Levan Matiashvili will join champion Kokauri in +100 kg. He could not participate in Georgian Championship because of injury”.
