Georgian team of Greco-Roman wrestlers had an unsuccessful start at World Championship. At the first day of the most important championship, winners were found out in three weight classes - 55, 66 and 96 kg. 3 from 7 Georgian wrestlers wrestled on Moscow wrestling mat. These 3 wrestlers held only 4 matches.
Manuchar Tskhadaia (66 kg), the best sportsman of Georgia in 2009, started unsuccessful participation in the championship from the second round. Georgian prize winner of European bronze and World silver medals lost first set with Armenian Arman Adikyan but he also lost his advantage and chance of gold-silver medals. Adikyan lost the second round and Tskhadaia lost the chance to fight for bronze medal.
Georgian Ambako Vachadze wrestling in the name of Russia beat Armenian Armen Vardanyan (wrestling in the name of Ukraine) in the final of 66 kg. Ambako finished the current season with gold double. We remind you, that Vachadze did not lose even a match at European Championship in spring.
Soso Jabidze (96 kg) finished the championship with the only one match. He was defeated by Egyptian Mohamed Ibrahim Abdelfattah. Unfortunately, in 99 kg, like 66 kg, Georgian wrestling in the name of other country had better result than member of our team. David Saldadze needed one victory to win a medal for Uzbek team. He was beat by Russian Olympic champion Aslanbek Khushtov in the final of repechage and finally, he took the 5th place. By defeating Timofei Dzeinichenka, Iranian Amir Aziz Aliakbar won a gold medal in this weight class.
Only Lasha Gogitadze (55 kg) managed to win from the team of Begi Darchia but he won only one match. After voting he wrestled in the second round where he easily defeated Czech Jan Hocko and went through the 1/8 final. Finnish Jani Haapamaki, winner of European Championship 2009, beat Gogitidze in the 1/8 final. If Jani had gone through the final, Gogitidze would have had a chance to wrestle in repechage. But Iranian Soryan defeated Jani in the 1/4 final and World Championship was finished for Gogitadze. Soryan won gold medal in this weight class. He became a 5-time World Champion.
Today champion-prize winners will be found out in 60, 84 and 120 weight classes. Revaz Lashkhi (60 kg), Vladimir Gegeshidze (84 kg) and Guram Perselidze (120 kg) will wrestle today. Lasha will start participation with wrestling against Abdulsamet Ugurli of Turkey and if he wins then he will wrestle against winner between Lithuanian Edgar Venckaitis and Belarusian Dzmitry Alenski. Because of injury Olympic and World Champion Islambek Albiev will not be able to wrestle with Russian team. Zaur Kuramagomedov will wrestle instead of him. He is in the wrap of Lasha Lashkhi and Georgian-Russian way will be crossed in semifinal.
Denis Forov wrestling in the name of Armenia wil be the first opponent of Gegeshidze. Winner will wrestle against the winner between Norikacu Saikawa of Japan and Marian Mihalik of Slovakia. European and World Champion Turkish Nazmi Avluca is in the wrap with Georgian sportsman. Russian Aleksei Mishin will try to go through the final from the opposite wrap.
Perselidze will wrestle against Milos Spasic of Serbia in the first round. Winner between Hirokacu Shinjo of Japan and Murat Ramonov of Kirgisistan will be opponent of the previous pairs. Host Jilan Khasan Baroev and Olympic and World Champion Mikhain Nunes Lopez of Cuba will not meet Perselidze till the final. Iranian Mohamad Gorban Goldasteh is worth mentioning and Georgian wrestler may wrestler against him in the 1/4 final.
