Georgian Women Won over Slovenia

 

After two losses in a row at European Team Chess Championship, Georgian women’s team defeated Slovenia 3.5:0.5. Only Nana Dzagnidze played draw from Georgians. Lela Javakhishvili, Nino Khurtsidze and Salome Melia gained victories.

Khurtsidze held the sixth game at the tournament and she has 5.5 points. She is behind only Anna Muzychuk of Slovenia. Muzychuk won all six (!) games till the seventh round and played the first draw against Dzagnidze.

Georgian team earned 10 points and is in the 4th place among 28 teams in the current tournament which is underway in the city of Greece, Porto Carras. Russian women’s team has 13 points. Poland is in the second place with 11 points. Ukraine and France have the same points like Georgians. Georgian chess players will play against Austria in the next round.

Georgian men’s team played the first draw at the tournament. Baadur Jobava (4 victories and 2 draws) won his game on the first board against Croatia. Merab Gagunashvili and Davit Zarkua played draws. Mikheil Mchedlishvili lost his game and the game ended up 2:2.

After 7 rounds, Georgian men’s team has 7 points and is in the 17th place. Leader Azerbaijan has 12 points. Armenia and Romania have 11 points. Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria and Holland are coming next. It is worth mentioning that favorite Russian team is in the 9th place with 9 points. Georgian team will play against Bulgaria in the next round.
