Georgian Open Water Rowing has Finished

 

Today, on October 15 Georgian open water rowing  has finished in Mtskheta. Representatives of 7 teams (Tbilisi, Poti, Kutaisi, Dusheti, Mstkheta, Yerevan and Sevan) competed each other in covering 500-metres distance. That’s why in comparison with yesterday, young sportsmen did not participate in it.

Among girls, the best was Eka Shaburishvili from Dusheti. She overcame 500-metres distance in two minutes and 5 seconds. Zaza Nadiradze (Mtskheta, 1 minute and 57 seconds) was distinguished in single canoeing.  Among couples, the best was representatives from Tbilisi and Poti, Badri Kavelashvili and Giorgi Tabatadze (1:45) succeeded, Giorgi Shaburishvili and Giorgi Chincharauli from Dusheti succeeded in canoeing (2,05 minutes). Bezhan Khurtsidze President of federation awarded the winners with gold medals. We got an interview from one of the winners 17-year-old Zaza Nadiradze:
- How do you train in such difficult conditions and are not you going to go in for another kind of sports?
- Now I am not going. As for the conditions, generally they are quite normal. But in comparison with others I have the best equipments.
- What prospects does this sport have in your mind?
- As for prospects, I have chance of getting license for London Olympics. In May, there will be held tournament in Poland and I will prepare for it abroad.

- Do Georgian results differ from the results of world leading canoeists?
- These results are very close to each other and sometimes ours are even better. Representatives from 90 countries were competing in elder age category and I took the 16th place.
- Your brother Varlam is also a canoeist. Why are you so interested in this sport?
- Our friend Vasil Pestov is canoeist, he became winner of Georgian rowing open and after it we interested in this kind of sport.
