Georgia Hosts World Rapid and Blitz Championships 2012

 

Today, at Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs was held press-conference about holing world rapid championship in Georgia. As far as you know on February 18-21, Tbilisi successfully hosted “star tournament” and after it was decided to hold world championship in Georgia. FIDE supported holding world championship in Georgia and gave right of organizing this tournament to Association of Chess Professionals. First time in Georgia is held world rapid and blitz championship.  

Lado Vadzelashvili (Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs):  “Georgia hosts World chess championship. Only some formalities have to be decided, as for other things, everything is all right. Holding this tournament is very important for popularization of chess”.

Gia Giorgadze (“President of Chess federation): “I hope that we host this tournament very well, world rapid championship is held in Georgia first time in its history”.

Emil Sutovsky (“President of Association of Chess Professionals): “It is decided that Georgia hosts world rapid and blitz championship and I support to this idea, because Georgia is experienced in hosting high-level tournament and what is the main, you have high-class chess players. I am absolutely sure that this tournament will be held very well”.
