Georgia Defeated Romania and Set Record at World Cup!

 

Georgian national rugby team beat Romania 25:9 at World Cup 2011 and established three records.

The main goal of Georgian rugby players, like Romanians, was to win this match. Both teams made a lot of mistakes but in the first half, Georgians used mistakes of opponents and advanced 12:6. Georgians had advantage in the second half and at the 56th minute Mamuka Gorgodze scored the only try of the match. Merab Kvirikashvili used conversion – 19:6. It was the 20th try of Mamuka Gorgodze in the national team and he improved his own record.

The advantage increased at the 69th minute when Kvirikashvili scored another penalty. Soon, Romanians scored penalty too. Though, at the 76th minute, Malkhaz Urjukashvili scored penalty and the match ended up 25:9. It is worth mentioning that these three points advanced Urjukashvili among top scorers of Georgian national team. Before that, Pavle Jimsheladze was top scorer of the team with 320 points. And one more record – before that, Georgia defeated Romania with 15 points (22:7) in 2008. Now, this record improved with one point.

Georgian national team will hold the next match against Argentina on October 2. Romanians ended up participation in World Cup.
